High-fidelity clinical simulation scripting

Synopsis

The aim of this training course is to equip participants to develop high-fidelity simulation scenarios. Activities will be proposed to integrate the various tools in order to produce a realistic scenario.

Training objectives for the participant

  • Familiarize yourself with the vocabulary associated with clinical simulation;
  • Familiarize yourself with the different types of objectives pursued in simulation ;
  • Know and apply the methods that promote an effective simulation scenario;
  • Understand the different stages involved in creating a screenplay;
  • Reflect on learners’ learning needs in relation to the scenario’s pedagogical goal;
  • Develop effective pedagogical objectives when creating the script;
  • Determine the level of complexity required for the scenario in relation to the target audience;
  • Know the characteristics of patient simulators, standardized patients and the SCHF environment;
  • Integrate best practices when developing a clinical simulation scenario;
  • Plan all the logistics involved in building the scenario:
    • Choice of simulation type;
    • Building the algorithm;
    • Choice of script cut and sequence;
    • Know the characteristics of patient simulators, standardized patients and the SCHF environment;
    • Use simulation tools judiciously, depending on the degree of realism required.
  • Start writing the high-fidelity clinical simulation scenario using simulation templates and tools;
  • Take a critical and constructive look at the best practices to follow when developing a scenario in a SCHF situation.

Activity sequence

  • Welcome and introduction
  • Understanding the pedagogical benefits of using high-fidelity simulation in on-the-job training
  • Understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of adult learning
  • Understanding the theoretical foundations of reflective learning
  • Identify the different stages involved in creating a screenplay:
    • Reflecting on needs
    • Stages and structure of the scenario ;
    • Screenwriting tools
  • Characteristics of an effective lens :
    • Drafting objectives
  • Writing the script
  • Conclusion of the day
    • Learning to consolidate
    • Learning assessment (see next section)
    • Evaluation of the training day.

Learning assessment methods

At the end of the day, participants will take part in a short assessment consisting of multiple-choice and/or short-answer questions. Attendance at the activity, as well as successful completion of the learning assessment and a satisfaction questionnaire, lead to recognition of 7 hours of continuing education and the award of a SOFEDUC-accredited training certificate.
